This tour will be a road trip that touches 6 national parks in just 2 weeks. Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, we will meander through all 5 of Utah’s Big Five National Parks: Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Zion, as well as numerous side trips on the way. We will have our grand finale by watching the sun rise and set at Grand Canyon, Arizona, before moving south to Phoenix for your return flight.
Friday, September 24
Arrive at Salt Lake City airport (SLC). Meet your guide and transfer to the hotel. Have an orientation and welcome dinner. Overnight in SLC.
Saturday, September 25
Drive to Moab. Relax at the hotel and explore the funky little town of Moab. Stay in Moab for 3 nights.
Sunday, September 26
Explore the Arches National Park, including the Delicate Arch and the Balanced Rock. At sunset, see the sun fall over the red rocks in the Windows area.
Monday, September 27
Visit the Canyonlands National Park, seeing the Mesa Arch and Grand View Point. Drive up the White Rim Road to see stunning views.
Tuesday, September 28
Drive to Fruita, a town near the Capitol Reef. On the way, stop by the Goblin Valley. Stay in Fruita for 2 nights.
Wednesday, September 29
All day in Capitol Reef National Park, driving along the Scenic Drive. See the Grand Wash. See the sunset at the Sunset Point.
Thursday, September 30
Move to the Tropic and Cannonville area. See the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Stay in Tropic/Cannonville for 2 nights.
Friday, October 1
Visit Bryce Canyon National Park’s Queen’s Garden and Rainbow Point. At nighttime, enjoy stargazing.
Saturday, October 2
Drive to Zion National Park, seeing the Lower Emerald Pool and walking the easy Canyon Overlook Trail. If desired, see the sunset at Canyon Junction Bridge. Overnight in Springdale.
Sunday, October 3
Go to the Grand Canyon and stay at the lodge. On the way, see the Pipe Spring Monument, an important site to local Native Americans. Stay in the Grand Canyon for 2 nights.
Monday, October 4
All day at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Bright Angel overlook and Cape Royal.
Tuesday, October 5
Drive to Antelope Canyon, stopping by the Jacob Lake Inn for a delicious shake. Overnight in Page.
Wednesday, October 6
Drive south to Sedona to buy some souvenirs at Tlaquepaque Arts Village. Visit the legendary 800-year-old Montezuma Castle, carved into a ledge. Drive to Phoenix for our farewell dinner. Overnight in Phoenix.
Thursday, October 7
After breakfast, transfer to the Phoenix (PHX) airport.
Martin Dale-Hench has been a resident of Japan since 2013, and he currently splits his time between Washington DC and Tokyo as he pursues a PhD degree in Linguistics at Gallaudet University. He is originally from Michigan, but he has been struck with wanderlust since he was a child and travels all around the world constantly. He enjoys learning languages, reading history, meeting new people, and learning trivia. He currently works as a Certified Deaf Interpreter and a translator of ASL, JSL, Japanese, and English.
